ePsychotherapy With Skype

Now Offering ePsychotherapy with

Technology has become an essential part of all of our lives. It can even be useful in counseling. While using the internet as a mode of communication for therapy may seem somewhat unconventional, online video conferencing is an effective and convenient alternative to face-to-face sessions. ePsychotherapy counseling services are provided via the Internet using Skype and are conducted the same way face-to-face sessions are conducted. While face-to-face psychotherapy is still preferred by many, ePsychotherapy has made it possible for clients to keep their appointment despite health problems, babysitting issues, and poor weather. It was once believed that the therapeutic relationship (critical for the client's success) was only possible with in-person visits. However, because of Covid and all that came with it, we now know that the therapeutic relationship is not negatively effected by conducting sessions on-line.

Skype is a free, computer-based video conferencing application and works on most common kinds of computers and operating systems throughout the world. It is very easy to use and is highly recommended. For increased efficiency a high speed internet connection works best. You will also need a web camera and speakers. Most modem cameras are equipped with a built in microphone. It is recommended to also use a headset for increased privacy. Many clients use their cell phones and are happy with the results.

Although communication on Skype is reported to be confidential, there is no guarentee that it will not be intercepted and/or overheard by others. Communication is encrypted by Skype before it is transmitted to the internet and then automatically decrypted by the receiving person's computer. However, any communication outside the office (including the telephone and email) can be intercepted.

To Get Started with Skype:

1. Go to www.skype.com , click the " Get Skype" link at the top of the page, and install it on your computer, iPad, tablet, phone, or whatever you prefer. For help and/or any questions you have about setting up or using Skype, please give me a call.

2. Open Skype and add me to your Contact List. My username is jon.mark.trusler.

3. You will need a webcam if your computer doesn’t have one built in, and a headset if you need additional privacy.

4. Contact me to arrange an appointment .

Note: For those of you who are not comfortable with technology, please don't worry... I will be happy to help you through the entire process (and if I can do it, you can too!) For those of you who are skeptical about using on-line, I am so sure you will be happy with the results that I am offering this guarantee: you do not have to pay for the first session until after the session is over. If you are happy with how things went, pay for the session and make another appointment. If, however, you are not happy for any reason, you do not have to pay! What do you have to lose?
